Prof. Cristina Ruiz-Agudo
Group leader “Physical Chemistry”
Dr. Cristina Ruiz-Agudo is currently holding a Substitute Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Konstanz, Germany. Her research centers on unraveling the stages of solid material formation, from fundamental building blocks—such as atoms, ions, and molecules—to the final crystalline or semi-crystalline structures. By exploring how these processes can be tailored using different additives, her work seeks to drive advancements in material science, with applications across both scientific and industrial sectors.
Her expertise encompasses a range of interconnected areas, including the fundamental investigation of crystallization processes and additive-controlled crystallization of cementitious phases, as well as the design and characterization of composite organic-inorganic materials. Her work further extends to geomimetic pathways, applying geological principles to materials science and engineering, alongside the study of nanoscale materials. A key focus of her work is the early-stage formation of magnesium silicate hydrate and how this process can be manipulated through the use of cost-effectiveness and low-environmental impact additives.
